North West Hants Conservatives gain an extra seat on the Council
3 May 2002
"Because of new Ward boundaries, it isn't possible to make a direct comparison with earlier elections. The Conservatives have one extra councillor in the constituency; the Liberal Democrats have one fewer, losing a seat to the Independents in Overton. Su Peters had a very good result in Rooksdown - which is a brand new Ward. Turn out was quite good at 34.3% and we polled very well in our strong wards."

Taking the leading candidate in each ward, the Conservative Party got 7850 votes, the Libdems 4594 and Labour 1141 - 57.8%, 33.8% and 8.4% respectively. However, the two smaller parties did not put up candidates in each ward. At the General Election a year ago, the Conservative Party got 50.1% of the vote, so there has been a swing of 7.7% to the Conservatives since then.
