12 May 2002
For the fifth year running, the Andover United Reformed Church held a service of thanksgiving for the Emergency Services, planned and led by those who serve as Chaplains to the Emergency Services. Senior Officers of the Emergency Services attended, along with the Lord Lieutenant Mary Fagan, the Mayor of Test Valley Cllr Jack Taylor and the Chairman of Hampshire County Council Clllr Alan Rice

"Coming so soon afer the tragedy at Potters Bar, the Service had added relevance this year. It was good to see the service growing each year, and we welcomed this year the Coastguard Service and the RNLI."

The service was led by Rev Canon David Tonkinson, the newly appointed BANHIM Industrial Chaplain in Basingstoke, and by rev Derek Overfield, Minister of Andover URC. The preacher was the Rev Malcolm Williams, a serving police officer in Wiltshire and a Baptist Minister.
