The League of Friends of Andover Hospital held their Annual Fete, which was opened by the recently elected Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Tony Gentle.
Chairman of the League of Friends, Mike Reynolds, said he was delighted with the turnout on a day when the weather was threatening to be unhelpful.
Funds raised go towards providing improved facilities at the hospital.
"People think the NHS is overflowing with money" said Sir George "But it isn't. The Primary Care Trusts which took over on April 1st have inherited a lot of debt, and that is going to be the first call on the new money. Andover Hospital is still desperately in need of fresh investment for a growing town."
