The Friends of Cricklade Theatre held their 23rd Annual Drama Festival on May 16th-18th. Seven local amateur production companies entered the competition for trophies, adjudicated by Sonia Woolley.
Overall winners were the Woolstore Country Theatre, with their production of "Evergreens" by David Campton.
"It was good to see so much local talent on display, and the Festival gives these local companies the opportunity to perform in a theatre rather than a village hall, with a larger audience and the benefit of a friendly appraisal of their performance by a professional."

The Friends of Cricklade Theatre warmly welcome you to their 23rd Annual Drama Festival. We hope everyone here, both companies and audience, will have a very enjoyable evening with us. Especially welcome are those groups here for the first time, competing in the atmosphere of friendly rivalry with our “regulars” to gain - or retain - one (or more!) of the splendid trophies so generously given by local interests and to benefit from the stage experience and adjudicator’s valued critique.
An enthusiastic audience is a great encouragement and reassurance to all the companies taking part, rewarding them for all the time and effort devoted to the preparation and presentation of the plays in the festival programme. We are very pleased, too, to welcome once again for a return visit, our adjudicator Sonia Woolley. Since 1978 the Friends has encouraged local amateur groups to stage their plays in this professionally equipped theatre and continues to assist financially in meeting some of the high costs incurred for the necessary maintenance and improvements, having subscribed some £30,000.00 over the years.
The Theatre Management appreciates your continuing valued financial support for this, YOUR community facility. Major funding is being sought to carry out further extensive refurbishments.
“FRIENDS” are always needed.....Do YOU have some time to offer? Please do consider voluntary roles as ushers, front-of-house or bar staff on some performance nights, or - a most urgent need right now - manning the Box Office. Please contact me, one of the “Friends” here tonight, or the Theatre Administrator, Holly Bednal, for full details. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
