Age Concern (Andover and District) decided to introduce a new prestigious Platinum Award for outstanding service to older persons covering 10 years or more, or 1500 hours or more. These awards complement the existing awards of Gold (500 hours), Silver (over 300 hours) and Bronze (over 150 hours.)
"I welcome this decision to mark Jubilee Year with an extra award, mainly focussed on Age Concern volunteers, but with three Guest Awards to volunteers from other organisations"
"These awards show that there is no age restriction on volunteering - one Platinum Award winner is 86 and still going strong!"
One winner was Maudie Bird, who started the Weyhill Seniors Club in 1966 and has been organising it ever since. She has also taught my wife Computer Skills in Clanville Village Hall."
