Andover Schools held their 33rd Country Dance Festival at Walworth's Sports Ground, helped this year by Learning through Landscapes (see below)
"Congratulations to Trish Cook and all the other teachers for the hard work that went into this. Getting several hundred primary school children to do country dances to this high standard was a great achievement, and many of the costumes were outstanding."
LTL is the National School Grounds Charity and it helps schools across the UK to get the best out of their grounds as a learning resource for children. It offers schools advice about
how to deliver the curriculum outdoors and provide practical advice and funding to help schools improve the use, design and management of their grounds.
Its work also supports the development of school grounds for children's physical, social and emotional development and we see them as an immensely important place for children to grow in a safe and supportive environment.
Learning through Landscapes has a very close working relationship with Hampshire County Council and Leader ClIr Ken Thornber and Merrick Denton-Thompson are both on our board which is chaired by Sir Bob Reid. The County was instrumental in the establishment of the Charity in 1990.
The event on 28 June is being supported by a substantial grant from the National Lottery 'Awards for All" programme and LTL has been able to play a lead role in securing this money working in partnership with the Andover schools. The grant includes money to help train and motivate other schools in the County to organise their own festivals so we very much hope that more will take part across the County next year.
