Speaking on Andover FM, Sir George said he hoped that the station would be successful in its bid for a permanent licence.
"Andover both needs and deserves its own local radio station. It is a large, confident and expanding town with its own character, and that should be reflected in its own radio station.
Andover FM have now completed their second spell of temporary broadcasting, and have generated listeners, advertisers and local news stories. Their running commentary at the Andover Show last weekend was highly professional, and I hope the Radio Authority gives it a licence later in the year."
