Sir George Young and Basingstoke and Deane Councillor Mike Ross met the organisers of a survey residents of the East Woodhay Parish on mobile phone masts.
"There are currently no mobile phone masts in East Woodhay, but there have been a number of applications that have caused concern locally. I recognise that we need to ensure that people can access their mobile phones, but the survey showed that the existing masts nearby can give a perfectly adequate signal. I think that these existng installations should be used before new ones are built."
"The residents feel under constant siege from repeated application from mobile phone companies. I sympathise with their view that, if the present situation is satisfactory, there should be a presumption against further installations. I also welcome their siggestion that, if more masts are needed, the local community should have a role to play in finding the best site."
"I also agree with them that the local planning authority should have more flexibility than they have at the moment to reject applications."
