Chairman of Sherborne St John Conservatives, Clair Gledhill, asked her boss - John Whittingdale MP - to talk to local Conservatives in the Chute Pavilion at Sherborne St John.
Earlier in the week, John had moved from Shadowing Patricia Hewitt at the DTI to shadowing Tessa Jowell at DCMS.
"The Labour Party spoke the language of business before the election, but their action subsequently betrayed that language. The last Budget put up taxes, but put them particularly for business. This is why the CBI is becoming more critical of New Labour"
John Whittingdale also criticised the Government for removing the opt-out from the Social Chapter and exposing UK businesses to more red tape and bureaucracy. "Watch out for the Physical Vibration Directive, which will impact on all tractor drivers despite a shortage of evidence that it will protect them from harm."
He also criticised the Climate Change Levy for its impact on manufacturing.
Thanking him for his speech, Sir George wished him well in his new challenge at the DCMS.
