The campaign to save the Post Office in Sherborne St John celebrated its success on October 9th, when the new owners – Mr and Mrs Poynton in the foreground with their son– moved in for business. They were able to buy the Post Office because SOPO (Save Our Post Office) bought their former home in Hatch Warren. Without this intervention by the Village, co-ordinated by David Keniston, the transaction would not have been possible and the Post Office would have closed.
“The campaign is a model of what other villages can do” said Sir George. “But it is only half over. Now the village must use the shop and Post Office, so it is a commercial success.”
