The Winchester and Andover Carers Centre opened a new centre in Andover, located in a room at Andover Hospital. Chairman Richard Dreaper explained that this was possible because of the favourable terms made available by the hospital. Cllr Marion Kerley, deputising for the Mayor, welcomed this new facility and the resources it brought with it for supporting carers - nearly one in six of the population is or will be a carer.
"I welcome this new centre as it will help bridge the gap between the NHS and Social Services. Caring is predominantly a social services activity, but it needs good links with the health service. Locating the centre in a hospital will cement those links."
