Following the unauthorised break-in by some 200 travellers at the Peak Copse site, Sir George went to the site to see the situation at first hand.
"Clearly, a great deal of work went into getting access on to the site. Tons of chalk, and some large concrete boulders, had been pushed out of the way by a JCB or similar equipment."
"Constituents at Dummer, who remember what happened when this was a designated gipsy site that was vandalised by its occupants, are concerned at this illegal occupation and I have contacted Hampshire County Council. They are taking the necessary steps to regain possession."
