Cllr and Mrs Alan Denness hosted a Christmas drinks party for local Conservatives at their home in Kingslere.
Speaking at the party, Sir George said that, in the past few weeks, the terms of trade had begun in change in politics.
"The economic position is less robust than the Chancellor thought, with Government expenditure steaming ahead of income in an unsustainable way. The industrial relations position is extremely serious, as the Government mishandles the FBU dispute; and serious splits are emerging in the government on the role of the private sector - with Foundation Hospitals, top-up fees and the London underground. November 2002 may be the month when the pendulum started to swing the other way."
At the party was Cathy Ossleton, who plans to stand for Basingstoke and Deane Council next May, to replace Rose Wellman who is retiring.
