Sir George voices concern about Police Funding
18 Dec 2002
"I quite understand that the Government want to put more resources into parts of the country where law and order is a real problem; but they should not do so by taking away money from Hampshire."
"Hampshire has been given the minimum increase by the Government - 3%. But Hampshire needs nearly 7% just to stand still. This is because of unavoidable increases on top of inflation - the Police Pay Reform package, National Insurance increases (introduced by the Government) and the rising cost of police pensions, where there is no option but to pay."
"This means that there will b either be a reduction in policing; or increasing the police precept by up to 20%. This is another example of Government hammering Hampshire."
