District Councillor Tim Jardine and Sir George spent an hour in St Mary Bourne with the Chairman of the Parish Council, Alan Marsden, seeing the damge done by the floods and discussing steps to be taken to minimise the likelihood of a recurrence.
"Tim will pursue with Basingstoke and Deane the possibility of help with the lateral drains; I will approach the Environment Agency about the bridges over the Bourne, which impede the flow, and about the depth of the Bourne, which might be lowered to increase capacity."
"Southern Water have installed pumps to prevent sewage flowing in the streets, but at the expense of pumping it into the Bourne. This is not a satisfactory long-term solution."
