Before Lady Young (right) drew the raffle with Marion Orwin at the Winton Branch Fun Supper at the Bonhomie Centre, Southend Rd, Andover, Sir George said how sad he was that the hereditary peers had been abolished before the Government could say by whom they would be replaced. “This is no way to reform the constitution; once again – as with devolution – they have gone ahead without thinking through the consequences.”
Sir George won a box of eggs and a basket of vegetables in the raffle.
