Sir George approaches BSI
23 Feb 2003
Sir George has made an informal approach to the British Standards Institute to see if they would "kite-mark" his parliamentary office.
"Discussions are at a very preliminary stage, and have been somewhat hyped up by the press. I need to get clearance from the House authorities to make sure that they have no objections, and then I need to see whether the BSI procedures can be applied to what an MP does."
Sir George said this was a purely personal initiative, that had nothing to do with his Chairmanship of the Standards and Privileges Committee, nor was there any reason why any other MP had to do what he was doing.
"However, I would like to be able to reassure my constituents that my office is run efficiently; and the BSI may well be able to offer some helpful advice."
