Following the recommendations of the Office of Fair Trading that any supermarket that wanted to could open a pharmacy, Sir george has been in touch with local pharmacies to hear their views.
"Steve Budden is quite clear that if the supermarkets take business from pharmacies such as his, there is a real risk of closure. Folk in Overton would then have to catch a bus to Hatch Warren to get their prescriptions. That would be unacceptable."

"Following a debate in the House of Commons last week which I attended, there are signs that the Government will not go ahead with these proposals; but we must maintain the pressure."
