John Thornton, Manager of the Globe in Andover High St, organised a medieval pageant after the Farmers Market on Easter Sunday.
Raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund, he challenged other local pubs to a tug-of-war. Filmed by Meridian, the tug-of-war was supervised by Sir George, who declared the medieval combatants - reinforced by some conscripts - the winners.

"All credit to John for having the imagination to put this on, for providing some good entertainment, and raising a bob or two for our boys."
