During his visit to Tadley to help with the local elections, Sir George called on the Old Boundary Hall site in Aldermaston Road.
"This site is owned by Tescos, who were going to build a store there. This would have been perfectly acceptable to local people, who would have welcomed some competition for Budgens.
However, because of planning delays, Tescos have pulled out and the site remains an eyesore."
"Some of those I met said it was difficult to sell houses locally because of this. Although the site is meant to be secure, children can easily get on to it and it is full of hazards. Local people would welcome some community facilities, and some open space; they are disappointed it has been zoned for housing. One thing is for certain - we can't leave the site as it is."
