The Macular Disease Society has recently moved its headquarters from Denbigh to Andover, and the local MP looked in to catch up on its news.
Sir George met the new Chief Executive Officer Tom Bremridge; the Chairman, Mrs Gwyn Dickinson and Tom Wilson, the Hon Treasurer.
"I was delighted that the Society has moved to my constituency and I want to do what I can to help them. The Society was founded in 1987 by a small group of people with central sight loss, supported by leading eye care professionals. They are now the largest patient support group in the sight disability field. Some 500,000 people suffer from Macular Disease - the major cause of blindness in the UK. The Society provides help and support when people are told they have Macular disease; they educate GP's about the disease and they fund a major programme of research."
"They have a number of local support groups, and provide professional counselling over the telephone. They have a Help Line based at Andover, dealing with tens of thousands of calls a year."
"I would like to help the Society strengthen its financial base, increase its membership and pursue a number of issues about the disease with Ministers."
