Two years ago,the swans nesting in the village pond at Penton had a good clutch of eggs;just before they hatched, a group of plastic ducks appeared on the pond and the eggs disappeared.
Last year, there were five cygnets, but two died straightaway and the rest never reached adolescence.
This year, the swans were in luck with seven healthy offspring from eight eggs.
A notice has been put by the side of the road asking motorists to look out for crossing cygnets.
