Following the announcement of the closure of Ducal in July, Sir George wrote to the Learning and Skills Council asking them to help retrain and find jobs for employees made redudnant.
This is the text of their reply.
Rt. Hon Sir George Young Bt MP
2 Church Close
Hampshire and Isle of Wight
Dear Sir George
Proposed closure of Ducal Andover
Many thanks for your recent letter to our Chief Executive John Harwood about the proposed closure of Ducal. We are very concerned to hear of the loss of so many jobs in the area.
We have made contact with the company and are working with them and other public sector partners to ensure that they have a coherent set of support services for their employees to find new job opportunities. We are particularly concerned, of course, to find new placements for their apprentices, but we have also been able to offer our Link2Learn’ service which provides information and advice on local training and education courses. We are glad that Ducal, as one of the many local employers to whom we have provided support to assist them to become an Investor in People organisation, is taking such trouble to ensure that its staff find new opportunities.
I was very pleased to know that you learned of our work in Leigh Park through our new newsletter, the Informer. If you would like to know more about our role in the planning and funding of post-16 education and training in Hampshire, or some of the smaller projects we are working on, please do let me know and I would be happy to come and brief you in London or Andover.
