Sir George visits Andover Shopmobility
6 Jun 2003
As part of National Volunteer Week, Sir George dropped in on Andover Shopmobility, at the bus station at the Chantry Centre.
"When they started a few years ago, Shopmobility had four customers a week. By the Friday when I looked in, they had had 71. The fleet has expanded to 15 scooters, and they have now got additional storage in the Car Park. This is a real success story, made possible by the commitment of the volunteers and then professionalism of the staff."
"They are always short of funds - and could use some more volunteers. While they have their regular customers with a long-term disability, a growing proportion are people recovering from an accident or an operation, who have a temporary mobility problem."

How can we help?
ShopmobilitY can provide you with a selection of electric scooters, powered and manual wheel-chairs, any of which can be hired for as little as £2 a day by members or £3 a day by non~members. Membership runs from 1 April to 3 1 March each year and costs just £5 per year which entitles you to a membership card, a copy of our newsletters and of course, lower charges!

How does it work?
You can just turn up, or book in advance to be sure of the vehicle you need and arrange for us to meet you.

Just tell us where and when you will arrive and if you need an escort. A member of staff can then be on hand to help you into your chosen vehicle.

We can also help you to decide which vehicle to hire and give advice on stores with wheelchair access.
