Sir George opened Shipton Bellinger Village Fete, organised by John Hughes and his committee. The fete raises funds for causes based in the village (applications to the Treasurer, Roy Batterby)

""Star attractions this year were the Amesbury Town Band, Line Dancing by the "Boot-Leg Bugs" from Ludgershall, and the Shipton Dance Club"

Sir George admired the Fancy Dress Parade, organised by Sue Turner, and his grandchildren spent two hours at the entertainments aimed at the younger visitor. He left with a coconut, a cake, two bottles fromthe bottle stall, a tin of spam and a pocketful of raffle and tombola tickets.

£1300 was raised, and this went to worthwhile projects in the village including the Football Club, the Guides, and Mothers and Toddlers
