Overton Conservatives hold pre-Lunch Drinks
6 Jul 2003
Talking at a function held at the home of Tim and Hilary Bridgman, Sir George outlined how the Opposition should respond to the challenges that confront the Government.
"People want to see a front-bench that exhibits competence, and I believe that team led by Iain Duncan-Smith which includes Michael Ancram, Michael Howard, Oliver Letwin, Damien Green, David Willetts, Caroline Spelman and others now does that.
People also want to know what our policies are on key issues such as top-up fees, police on the beat, a referendum on the European Convention and asylum seekers are. And we are now doing that.
One key message that will need to be conveyed over the next two years is that, if the publ.ic want to get rid of the present Government, the only way to do so is to vote Conservative."
