Local MP intervenes on Sainsbury Closure
23 Jul 2003
Following representations from his constituents in Tadley, Sir George has written to Sainsburys to see whether it is necessary to totally close Budgens in Tadley, while it is refurbished and extended by Sainsburys. “ I very much welcome the fact that Sainsburys are acquiring this supermarket, and that they are planning to invest in it and expand it. This is good news for those who live in and around Tadley”

“However, a six month closure of the only major supermarket in Tadley will cause quite a lot of problems; I have asked Sainsburys whether it really has to be closed for six months, and if there is any way of keeping part of the store open. I have also asked them to consider providing free transport from the Budgens car park to the nearest Sainsburys store, so the elderly and those without access to cars are not too greatly inconvenienced.”
