"I was very sorry to hear of Alan's sudden death at the end of July, and Aurelia and I send our deepest sympathy to Maureen and the family.
Alan was someone who was always positive and cheerful - and he will be much missed by his many friends in and around Andover, and by those he represented on Test Valley Borough Council. He was very committed to his work for the Environment Agency as well as to the local authority.
He spent 29 years in the Police Force, being commended on several occasions and being promoted to the rank of Inspector. Everyone tells me what a fine officer he was.
Alan was also a generous host - his party at the Bourne Valley Inn last year to celebrate his latest birthday was a marvellously happy and well-organised event."
"His work had recently been recognised by the award of the MBE, and I know he was looking forward to his visit to the Palace. I hope it will be possible for the family to receive the medal on Alan's behalf."
