One day after it celebrated the first anniversary of the opening of the Village Shop, Abbotts Ann held its Village Fete.
"Liz Dell and her team did a fantastic job with this year's fete. Last year, they raised over £3000 for local organisations and I am sure they will have raised more this year."
After Sir George opened the fete, there was a fancy dress parade led by piper Mark Lawson. which was judged by Aurelia Young.
Extract from Programme
"This year we are hoping to raise funds once again for our
village associations and orgenisations. The church needs a
new boiler, the school nends stacking tables, the nursery
school needs a shed, the village hall needs a face lift ... and
on it goes. We all enjoy these amenities in our village, so
this is a good opportunity to support the organisers who
work very hard, voluntarily, and keep our village up there with the best. As I said last year, “The fete is not an event run by the fete committee for the residents of Abbotts Ann. It is an event organised by the fete committee, but run by the residents of Abbotts Ann. It's a give and take affair; a bit of a bring and buy sale, you bring some help and buy some fun.” If you enjoy your fete, and would like it to remain a village highlight, now is the time to put your best foot forward. I am unable to chair the committee next year, and appeal to you, especially if you now have a tiny bit of time on your hands, to volunteer to be the Chairman of the Village fete Committee. Without a committee the fete won’t happen, without a chairman the committee can’t function.
Last year we had a well attended AGM at which we presented cheques to the village organisations. We shared out £3,187. Will we have an even bigger profit this year?
The past 2 years have been hard work, but I have enjoyed my time on the fete committee. I would like to thank the committee members for all their hard work, and also all those not on the committee who have helped.
You are all invited to the AGM, to have a glass of wine and plan for next year. We have provisionally booked Monday 17th November, at 7:30, in the Village Hall. Please check in the parish magazine nearer the time.
