The prestigious "Leisure Centre of the Year" Award was run by Valley Leisure, Managers of the Andover Leisure Centre.
Sir George visited the Centre to congratulate the staff on their achievement.
"The last time I was in the Leisure Centre was when the votes were counted there - so my memories are somewhat tense. It was a real pleasure to go round the centre with the Chairman, Paul Richards, and the Chief Executive Sheridan Easton and meet staff and customers. The Leisure Centre has been tranformed since it was built 27 years ago, and is a now a modern, user-friendly centre offering a range of facilities to promote physical and mental well-being. It can compete with the private sector and offer something for the toddler to the pensioner - tailormade to what they need."
"As a former squash player, I was interested to hear that there is now less demand for the game, and that some of the space has been converted to studios, where people can relax. Also, there is less demand for badminton, and more demand for exercise regimes to match individual requirements, rowing, bicycling or pumping metal."

"My wife goes to Pilates at the Centre and greatly enjoys it; and I hope to take our grandchildren to the new play area there soon."
