The Bishop of Basingstoke, the Rt Rev Trevor Wilmott, opened the new building at St Martins Church of England Primary School at East End, near Newbury.

"Roland Bullivant, the Chair of Governors, and Jennifer Veasey, the Head, did so well to raise £37,000 in 18 months - this being the school's contribution towards the £370,000 cost of the new building. I know how many people helped them meet this challenge."
"The school now has a splendid staff room as well as a large, light new classroom. The new building has increased the space available for the school by about 30%. Already a popular and successful school, these new facilities will enable it to do even better."

The opening was combined with a Harvest Festival Service, and followed by light refreshments. Every child was given a stoneware clay bowl, made by Tim Foster, a former Head of the school.
