The Newtown Village Hall Committee held a Harvest Supper to help raise funds for the upkeep of the building.
"The Hall was full, with about 50 people there, for an enjoyable evening culminating in a sing-song with Liz Ellis at the keyboard. Many of the residents are taking part in a key legal case on the issue of access rights over Newtown Common, and it was helpful to catch up on the news. Their appeal is scheduled to be heard in July next year; but as this is after the date by which residents have to pay over the money that has been claimed by Bakewell Management, there is a strong feeling that the date should be brought forward. If the Appeal is won, no money would be payable.
I support the move to bring forward the appeal, and am in touch with the relevant body in the House of Lords to see if it might be heard sooner."
