Broadband Industry Group campaign
13 Oct 2003
This is a group of major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) (some are also more general telecommunication providers), set up to campaign for changes in the rgeulatory regime that they claim will result in a more competitive market for ADSL services. In particular they want Oftel/Ofcom to enforce a 'cost based' pricing regime on BT's supply of wholesale access to ADSL.

This follows on from the failure of 'local loop unbundling', a regulation that allowed competitors to put their own ADSL technology into BT exchanges, but which has failed to achieve any significant change, with BT being the only source for wholesale ADSL in most parts of the UK.

I'll be watching progress on this with interest.
