"A few years ago, I persuaded South West Trains to extend Grateley carpark by buying some nearby land. There were serious problems then of commuter cars inconveniencing local residents; and the extra spaces solved the problem - until the popularity of the station resulted in more cars. The parish council was advised in July that a further piece of land was available from a local business for purchase by Network Rail in order to extend the car park again, but so far no progress has been made."
"The use of nearby Campbell Close as an overflow car park by commuters is causing a real problem for residents (especially those without driveways) who return home at lunchtime and can't park; and even more of a problem at the end of the day when they all arrive home from work. The Close consists of 24 houses and a local shop with its own car park and at times there can be as many as 9 or 10 non-resident cars left during the day and it has been known for two or three of these to be left overnight, throughout the week. "
"I am in touch with Network Rail and South West Trains to see if we can make progress. I support the policy to persuade people out of their cars onto public transport, but we must have the necessary space in the carparks. I will work with Grateley Parish Council to solve this."
