Following a fatal accident on the A30 over three years ago in which Andrew Stewart died, Sir George went to see the traffic improvement scheme for which his parents had campaigned.

"Rod and Sue Stewart have patiently but persistently campaigned for safety measures on this stretch of the A30, just north of the Dummer roundabout. When I visited the site with them some three years ago, it was clear to me that visibility was poor and the layout of the junction confusing. Hampshire County Council have responded well, and there are now traffic lights and improved contours which should ensure there is never a repeat of the tragedy. I commend Mr and Mrs Stewart for what they have done, which is to improve safety for all travellers on this section of the A30"

Mr and Mrs Stewart have planted some shrubs and bulbs near the spot.
