Leonie Rickard, landlady of the Lamb Inn in Andover died on Friday. Sir George, who had known Leonie for eight years, paid tribute to her charitable work in the town.
"When I saw Leonie at a dance in Andover a few weeks ago, no one would have thought of a her as an 83 year old who had had a triple bypass operation, and had recently been immobilised in hospital. She stayed right to the end, she danced, and she looked fabulous."
"She was one of the kindest people in the world - for ever raising money for charities. Her favourite ones were the Licensed Victuallers, and the Friends of Andover Hospital - but there would often be a bottle in the pub for another one - or a huge pile of coins."
"She was also generous to my Party, allowing us to hold functions in her pub. She will be very much missed in the town, and my thoughts are with her two sons Anthony and Ashley"
