To help raise funds for the new Recreation Area, St Mary Bourne held an auction of promises in the Village Centre.
Philip Winchcombe, who is heading up the Appeal said "This was a brilliant day beyond our very best expectations. The auction raised £7700 and the BBC v Village football match, which the village lost 2-1, the bar and BBQ etc brought the surplus to £8000 plus."

Sir George, who used to live in the village, said he had been impressed by the generosity of local people in donating goods and services to help raise funds. "I think the gentleman who paid £35 for an evening's free drinking in the Coronation Arms got a very good bargain."
