Sir George Young forwarded to Hampshire County Council a petition collected by Annette Black of Pilgrims Way, Andover. She was concerned at the absence of a lollipop lady outside the Vigo Schools, and organised a petition which Sir George forwarded to Hampshire County Council.
“I was delighted to get the attached letter, (see below) indicating that there is a solution and hopefully it won’t be too long before there will be a school crossing patrol once more outside Vigo Schools.”

Dear Sir George
School Crossing Patrol recruitment - Vigo Schools, Andover
Thank you for your further letter of 28 May 2004 regarding the above issue and the petition which you received in favour of the recruitment of a School Crossing Patrol Officer, as collected by Mrs Black.
I apologise for the delay in my reply to previous correspondence, but I was awaiting more definite information and I am delighted to tell you that considerable progress has been made in this matter since my last letter to you of 13 April. The lady who initially showed interest in this post was interviewed on 20th May and subject to medical clearance and satisfactory references we hope to install this lady as a School Crossing Patrol outside Vigo Schools within the next few weeks.
If however this particular lady is not able to take up the position, my officers will contact Mrs Black to see whether one of the members of the local school community who signed the petition would be interested in applying for the post.
Thank you again for contacting me over this matter.
Chief Engineer (Traffic Management and Road Safety)
