Although the formal opening of the new Andover Crisis Centre will not be until September, visitors were shown round to get a preview of the facilities that have been built.
"This is a new refuge for families fleeing from domestic violence, and a day centre for Andover's rough sleepers. At the moment, there are facilities at 17 London St - but these are very cramped. What has been built on the site next door provides infinitely better conditions for both residents and staff."
Capital for the project came from the Housing Corporation and Test Valley Borough Council, with Testway Housing acting as development managers.
Guests on the day included Rev Ian Tomlinson, who chaired the committee that planned the scheme, Fiona Kay - a counselling psychologist and Lorraine Collis, Child and Young Person Worker. They were shown round by Yvonne Bradbury, the Centre Manager.
