Sir George opened Vigo Junior School Fetre, congratulating Sue Honey and her team on the PTA for holding the first school fete for some time "They have an ambitious target of £5000 for a new adventure playground, to replace the current one which is looking a bit tired."

Sir George also cut the ribbon so the Test Valley Brass Youth Band could start playing under their conductor Steve Large. The Fire Brigade provided a safety display, and the Hampshire Ambulance Service was on the site so children could look round a modern ambulance.
"I was interested to hear that, with the new out-of-hours arrangements as from July 1st, the ambulance service is getting called out more at night - often when they are not needed. The new arrangements are clearly taking some time to bed down and I will be keeping a close watch on this."

Sir George backed the losing ferret in the ferret race, bought a hot air balloon, a cake, a hot dog; won a coconut and listened to former pupil Jade-Marie Palk sing some songs.

Year 3 pupils under Miss Eddlestone and Miss Matthews performed some country dances.
