Local MP, Sir George Young visited The Oak Tree Nursery in Whitchurch to plant a young oak tree to mark its formal opening. A ribbon was cut by Town Councillor Judy Abate.
As part of the event, guests were treated to a performance of nursery songs by The Oak Tree’s children, supported by the Acorns (under 2s) on percussion. There was also a chance to look around the nursery and its grounds and to sample some of the cook’s delicious home baking.
Owners Emma Longton and Cathy Saint said: “Although we actually opened back in January this year, we wanted to hold a formal event to thank the many people who have helped us in the early stages of setting up the nursery. In particular, these include Sir George Young and Councillor Alison Wall who have both given a huge amount of help and guidance. We are also extremely grateful to Eagle Star and their representative, Giles Wordsworth, who are leasing the land to us.”
Sir George congratulated Cathy and Emma on overcoming numerous hurdles in record time to get planning permission, to get the building constructed and the necessary consents to open at the beginning of the year. "Whitchurch is an expanding town; there is enormous pressure on existing child care facilities; and I am not surprised that there has been such a swift take-up of the high quality services available here."
