The Church of the Ascension, Burghclere, held its Summer Fete in the grounds of the Primary School, and was opened by the local MP, Sir George Young.

Declining a ride on the Unridable Wooden Horse, Sir George said he would prefer to chance his luck on the coconut shy. Opening the fete with a loudhailer, he placed his order for a hamburger with onions.

"This is helping the Church to raise the funds it needs to maintain its strong presence in the village - so dig deep!"
