Doug Ellis and Tim Kelleher, representing Newtown Residents, came to Sir George Young’s office in the House of Commons to-day for a meeting with officials from the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.
“We discussed a range of options for resolving the problems confronting home-owners in Newtown Common, who are faced with demands for 6% of the value of their houses, for the right to continue to drive up to their front door – a right they have enjoyed for decades.”
Options discussed included amending the Countryside Bill to provide a legislative framework to solve this problem. In a debate in the House of Commons in November, the Minister expressed sympathy with the residents.
