Sir George Young MP attended an historic event at Rookwood School today when he officially opened the new boys’ boarding house.
The house, situated close to the school, was purchased at the beginning of this year, and is conveniently adjacent to the existing girls’ boarding house. It has been completely refurbished and can accommodate up to 10 boys.
The brand new bedrooms have smart furniture and plenty of space. There is a large TV room for after school relaxation, with dining and kitchen areas being shared with the girls’ house. The new accommodation has also enabled additional facilities to be made available for the boarding girls, including a quiet study area equipped with new computers.
Mr and Mrs Crowe, who took over as houseparents in January, have overseen much of the renovation and will be in charge of both houses.
"You may have seen Mrs Crowe recently on Channel 4 where she is currently playing the formidable matron in ‘That’ll Teach Em 2’, but pupils assure us that she is misrepresented!"
Mrs Margaret Langley, Headmistress, commented:
“We were delighted that Sir George agreed to officially open our new boarding house. It looks wonderful and the combined facilities in the two houses mean that Rookwood is now able to offer an excellent boarding environment for both boys and girls.”
Sir George said:
“I welcome this extension of the facilities offered by Rookwood; the substantial investment which is taking place in the school at the moment will enable it to build on its formidable record of achievement.”
