Oakley and Deane Parish Council raised nearly half a million pounds to rebuild the pavilion at Newfound. With the help of two young players from Oakley Football Club, Sir George cut the ribbon and unveiled the plaque at an opening ceremony organised by Parish Council Chairman, Ros Blackman.
"As President of Oakley Football Club, it was a real pleasure to do this and see the new facilities. The Football Foundation were very generous in providing the bulk of the funds needed, and compared with what was available before, the new pavilion is a five star hotel. Many congratulations to Oakley and Deane Parish Council for masterminding this exciting project."
The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane was present along with County Councillor Anna McNair-Scott and District Councillor Cecilia Morrison, and the architect Robin Haddow.
