Sir George visits Andover Sorting Office
17 Dec 2004
It was an early start for Sir George, when he got to the Andover Sorting Office at 6.30 in the morning. "But I stopped feeling sorry for myself when I met the postmen and women, who had been there since 5.30 sorting the mail and bagging it up before going out on their rounds. Some would deliver nine or ten pouches and not finish until 1pm"
Sir George met his own postman - Jim Robertson - who does Penton and Tangley, and was taken round the office by Manager Shaun Board.
"2004 has been a turbulent year for Royal Mail, as they moved over to one single delivery, and an increased workload for each postman, to contain costs. I think we get a first-class service in the Andover area and I enjoyed meeting the men and women behind it."
Sir George was told that Monday December 20th was likely to be the busiest day of the year.
