Barnabas Hurst-Bannister, Chairman of Abbotts Ann Conservatives, launched the branch's 2005 Programme with a New Year's Drinks Party in the Village Hall.
Present were the village's two Test Valley District Councillors - Arthur Roberts and Margot Townsend - and its present County Councillor Pat Pierce, who is retiring when the council is re-elected on May 5th. Under boundary changes, the village and the Clatfords move into the ward currently represented by the Deputy Leader of the County Council, Michael Woodhall.

Speaking at the event, Cllr Woodhall said that Hampshire County Council, under the Government's own measurements, had been rated as "excellent"; and he would be taking a particular interest in matters relating to planning around Andover.

Sir George said that he believed the response to his Party's recent announcements on spending and taxation showed that it was being taken seriously as an alternative to the present Government, and that there was an appetite for well-costed and coherently presented policies on issues that concerned people in their every-day lives
