Extract from Programme Notes
February is traditionally the season for Film Award ceremonies such as The Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs. These richly colourfful evenings have an array of stage and screen stars parading in and out to either present or receive the honours bestowed upon them.
Not to be outdone CADS - the Clatford Amateur Dramatic Society - thoughthat such a glamorous occasion should be brought into the heart Goodworth Clatford so we have devised our own event called 'The Golden Lobster Awards'.
CADS performed the Alan Ayckborn play 'Between Mouthfuls' in which the waiter served Lobster Thermidore. After the show the lobster was kidnapped and ransom notes were received. Eventually (after no payment whatever!) the lobster was recovered and immediately adopted as our mascot. It has appeared in every show since (so keep a watch for it in the future!)
"CADS were in great form, taking the micky out of the Oscars. Making their own films, and then creating an award ceremony around them, they caught the atmosphere both of the cinema and then of the presentations of awards. This is exactly what amateur dramatics should be about - some good scriptwriting with plenty of local allusions; some heroic acting, ingenious stage managements and props - and lost of laughter. Well done Cliff and the team."
