Local sculptor commissioned to do Sir Walter Raleigh
16 Feb 2005
Vivi Mallock of Thruxton has been asked by MP Hugo Swire to do a life-size statue of Sir Walter Raleigh for East Budleigh - the nearest village to his birthplace at Hayes Barton on Devon. This is in Hugo Swire's East Devon constituency.
"Hugo Swire was on the train from Waterloo to Exeter last Spring, and my wife Aurelia and I bumped into him. He mentioned that he was trying to commission a statue of his former constituent, and we suggested that he contacted Vivi Mallock. We are great admirers of her work and they got in touch. We were thrilled to hear that, based on the maquette in the photo, Vivi has been asked to do the statue."
