Guest speaker at the NWHCA Conservative Policy Forum Supper Club was local GP Dr Pat Bassett. Dr Bassett, who is non-political, is Chairman of the Andover Primary Care Group.
Dr Bassett explained the changes that were taking place in the organisation of the NHS, which she described as probably the biggest since the NHS was launched. She said that GP’s and Nurses were being given more responsibility for running the service, and the Primary Care Groups would eventually become Trusts with responsibility for large sums of money. Hampshire faced difficulties as it sought to bring service levels into line with the budget, which was lower per capita than inner city areas because the population was perceived to be healthier and wealthier.
The event took place at Pigeon Farm House, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Jeremy Armitage.
